Ok, I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say here, but why has generally everything I've seen of the Orb in relation to videos/concerts sucked balls? I don't mean their performances....their music is top notch and i wish they had videos and junk that reflects that. I haven't seen alot of stuff, so if anyone can recommend things that are visually pleasing, pleae inform me. What I've Seen: Early Live show (UFOrb?); sounded like Hillage was playing with them and there was lots of cheesy footage of dolphins in space.....thought I was watching public access television. Asylum Video: Live Action/animation piece....I remeber tanks and airplanes and I know LXP & Andy Hughes were in it, but the video wasn't half as tripped out as the song asylum is. Once More Video: Was LXP the bellhop in this one? Nuff Said. Someone like Chris Cunningham needs to work on an orb project....Just about every video he makes is fucking amazing, and i think both Cunningham and the Orb have very "Kubrickian" tastes at times. Also, is there video of the orb on Top of the Pops playing chess? I would love to see that. Yer pal, Gel-Sol www.gel-sol.com

This sounds like Patterns n Textures... and while its pretty retro by today's standards, for being created in the late 80s/early 90s, its not *that* bad (IMHO)

A matter of opinion, I suppose... Personally, I think its a pretty kick-ass video, and it toured around several film festivals, so I suppose there's quite a few people out there that liked it besides me.

You forgot Toxygene, which was equally as ridiculous - if memory serves, its LX & Andy running around the studio like a bunch of nutters! :-P Cunningham is certainly brilliant, but pretty dark in mood and tone, which isn't something I associate with the Orb. But hey, its not like I've produced a kick-ass video show to accompany the Orb or anything, so who am I to complain, right? ;) =) rachel ------------------------------------ Rachel's Orb Discography http://www.migoto.com/orb

Ben Stokes of H-gun studios/ Tino Corp. made the videos for Toxygene and DJ Asylum. 2 of my favorites. His work stands alone, much like Chris Cunningham and Michel Gondry. Maybe I'm biased, but he's a nice fellow and let me tape his live set last year with Jack Dangers here in Chicago. As far as Cunningham doing an Orb video, I can't really see the match. Maybe he could pull it off and make me eat my words, but I think stylisticly, there 2 different genres. When I thing of Cunningham, I could see him doing something from the new Massivve Attack album, recent Radiohead, and possibly a Sigur Ros track or 2... Gondry on the otherhand is closer, but I think a little too artsy. I could see a video by him of an Orb song, and it be totally distracting from the music. I could see him doing a video for Badly Drawn Boy, Primal Scream, And possibly a Sigur Ros track or 3... Gavin __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I saw that at the time. It was very low-key. The chess-board itself was curved, like if you painted the board on the top of a large sphere (like the size of Rover in The Prisoner). I didn't know it was really our Orbonauts. They made no sign of grooving to the music, but they did move chess pieces. Of course this is all from memory after, what, about 10 and a bit years. Having always thought that the 40 minute version was the one true version, I didn't really like that 7" mix. After all, in my mind the first bass riff should be the simpler one like this oo o o oo o o o o o (am I making any sense here?) mind you I suppose if we had the video, a skilled editor could make a remixed top of the pops which consisted of 40 minutes from that clip and NO PRESENTERS!
