The Steve Reich ensemble played a concert in Dallas this past Saturday evening, and I went to check it out. After the show was over, they had a question/answer session, and someone asked about Reich Remixed and electronic music and whether or not Reich listened to it. During the course of his answer, he brought up the Orb. He said that he was being interviewed in London in 91, and that the journalist asked him what he thought of the Orb using his work. He replied that he hadn't heard it, so the journalist gave him a CD of Ultraworld. He said, "These guys don't just like something, they take it!" He then said that he decided not to sue them. I thought it was pretty interesting... I was thinking about it, and the Orb was my introduction to Reich. I bought Electric Counterpoint because of that connection, and that led to my purchasing other Reich CDs and going to this concert. Steve
