yep! adrian sherwood, was i think with the tackhead/on-u sound system for many a year, and helped form or was the main man behind AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE, who have done some grand experiments with afro jamaican slightly psychedelic reggae mixed with a bit of world weirdness. albums to check out are shashemene land, and songs of praise. was involved with club dog scene and fun-da-mental and transglobal tours in mid 90's, has a big catalogue of stuff way back before before. worth checking out. some work seems like basic but solid experimentation, and some work is pure class. with african head charge he shared (maybe still does) a studio with lee scratch perry in switserland,(i think) but definatly shared studio space with him, and they influenced each other late 90's... over and out, drummer paul --- lhalley@socal.rr.com wrote: From: "Edward Halley" <lhalley@socal.rr.com> To: <theREALmxyzptlk@comcast.net>, "What were the skies like when you were young?" <orb@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: RE: [Orb] Koko Gig/Fehlman Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2006 18:39:04 -0700 Many know Sherwood for his Depeche Mode remixes fvll bla blazo wrote:
So can anyone give us the "Lowdown" on Adrian sherwood? All I can find out is that he seems to be a bit of a Dubmiester boy, anyone seen him perform before?
I've never seen him perform but I know he formed On-U Sounds in the 70s which was a reggae/dub label in the UK. In the 90's he started Pressure Sounds which re-issued old reggae stuff. That's about the extent of my knowledge about him.
I really like the Prince Far-I and the Arabs release I have from Pressure Sounds but am not a fan of the Dub Syndicate CD I have that was released on On-U.

Adrian's claim to fame came from his fusion of dub techniques with the post-punk regime/sounds of the 80s (he was a legendary remixer), along with his love/propigation of old dub as mentioned above - and his African Head Charge project. _______________________________________________ Orb mailing list Orb@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/orb Report list abuse to list-abuse at studio-nibble.com _______________________________________________ Orb mailing list Orb@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/orb Report list abuse to list-abuse at studio-nibble.com _____________________________________________________________ The latest versatile and popular FREE email for students, homes and businesses is available FREE from Code HOT UK.
