Must be one of those people who hasn't configured their FTP client to work properly. Idling without disconnect/timeout is pretty bogus, likewise with reconnect on disconnection. Can you configure your FTP server to disconnect idle connections over a certain period of time? Most will let you do that.
You can also configure this on the server side... You can instruct your FTP server to disconnect people after say 10 minutes of idle time. Its not something you should have to resort to banning someone over. Also, idling shouldn't really take CPU cycles. If they have no activity, they are sending no O/S requests for resources, and generating no I/O. Of course this depends on whether you're using a decent FTP server program or a crappy one ;) _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

actually, some ftp clients don't disconnect after finishing a download. some fake idling by sending bogus ftp commands every few secs. very naughty when running a ftp server with limited logins on limited bandwidth... and unfortunately, far too many leech clients do *not* get the clue when they're kicked off the servers, they just keep on hammering the connections, even after you ban them... not that ppl ever bother to read ftp messages anyway so they deserve the bans ;) --- Agust "nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://nem1.cjb.net free your :) [tm]
