1) >>Cydonia wasn't worth the.....>> Obviously everyone has different tastes, but I personally think "Terminus" is an orb classic? 2) I confess "I am an orbaholic". I was looking back over the the years of archives and see postings from obsessed fans. Most are no longer on the list, I was wondering what happened to them? Does anyone know a laspsed liste? - did they go mad, or did they grow up, get married, move away, do they still listen to the orb, or have their musical tastes changed,(if so to what?). Can we learn anything about our own mortality and list future from these people? Any help would be appreciated before it's too late. cheers bill
I will agree, Cydonia has it's moments Terminus and Ghost Dancing being my favorite. I guess my biggest complaint was that it felt flat. I long for the day when an _entire_ Orb release blows me away. I know it is hard to continue making great music, coming up with good ideas, etc, but the final Cydonia version sounded more like patch work than a great album release. I can't stand the Beatles. My friend, Bill, responded to this by saying, "You have never had an album experience, then." To which I responded, "I have had a full album experience...Orb" That shut him up. I guess I am just saying I know LX and co still have some great albums in them and I want to go back to being an obsessive Orb fan, but will only do so when I feel it merits it. It i should also be known that Cydonia is the only Orb release I don't like. So, I feel I am justified in saying it is not as good as the others, which it is not. np: Camping Gaz and DigiRandom - Circus World Bbbrooo@aol.com wrote:

I think I see the problem here. We're in denial! Most of us were introduced to the Orb way back when Youth (and then Andy) were active, important parts of the group. There's no question that their contribution shaped the Orb sound to what we loved it to be. But things change...the Orb, as it was, is no longer. With the comings and goings of various members, the sound has gradually, but noticably, changed. Many of us "olde-time" orbies liked it better the old way. Perhaps this is why there seem to be fewer and fewer of the "old" posters on this list. Will the Orb ever be the same? Nah. We can always appreciate the "new" sound, but really shouldn't hope for a regression to the way it was because it will never happen. For me, personally, I think the last truly great Orb album was Orbus Terrarum (not counting the first Auntie Aubrey's, which I love). Orblivion was a disappointment, but Cydonia (v1.0) was much, much better (albeit with a totally different sound). As for future albums (if any)...who knows? But we shouldn't expect it to sound like Adventures or UFOrb. I think this is the most I've posted in two years! james

speaking of which - what ever happened to Pete Ashdown? Such a strong presence on the list - almost a decade ago, no? (thank god I'm still in my 20's)

I am still die hard FFWD, though I rarely rarely listen to it anymore. For me it was the last great, great thing. Otherwise I do think groovetech has reaffirmed my overall agreement with Alex's tastes. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? idling is golden... maybe/probably we lost some people when the list dumped us all & we had to resubscribe & all that confusion... I mostly just idle :) I'm a lazy git, and I freely admit that :p as for music... lately I've been listening to various Fax label stuff, Vladislav Delay, Monolake (yum. very very yum.), biosphere, esa 'lackluster' ruoho (I still think his old cdr#2 released on mono211 as one of my top10 favorite cds.... :p http://www.rainemu.com/nemesis1/cds-new.html lists what I've bought the last 3 years :P np: yagya: the rhythm of snow (excellent release :) --- Agust "nemesis1" - aaj@centrum.is - ICQ: 1290264 - http://nem1.cjb.net free your :) [tm]
or did they grow up
Sounds like my father, a real old timer. What does that have too do with music? As you grow older your taste should remove all the piffle and become more defined. It's a whole different matter being tied down to work, marriage, kids, a mortgage, etc. etc. etc. and losing track of what's happening with music. It's a matter or time management between commitments and hobbies/entertainment. Some can balance and enjoy more than one facet of life, other's can't. Now excuse me while I get ready to play a 3 hour set this evening. FVLL (someone probably old enough to be your father)
