Just starting out building my collection of orb including vinyl and wanted to know of a good record player that will be kind to my records and also connect to my computer. My goal is to record the vinyl to my hard drive then burn to cd to listen while at work. br, dcdawson
If you have $13,000, nothing beats a laser turntable. "No needle. No wear." http://www.elpj.com/frameset.html * Chris Dawson (ChrisD@productsafet.com) said:

yeah, but it doesn't have digital out! :) Any turntable will connect to your soundcard. It's called "line-in" on your soundcard. With most turntables, you will need/want a pre-amp before the card. Check out Denon and Stanton. They have 'DJ' models that have digital out. If your soundcard has digital in, this is the way I'd go. No pre-amps, no setting levels, etc.. as close to plug-and-play as possible. If you don't have the digital-input, then just buy whatever. Are you going to DJ? Probably not, so you don't need the highest end with loads of torque. Maybe check out the numark line. Pro-TT2 is nice, but probably overkill, this can be had for as low as $280.US new. -chromatest

This is the turntable I wish I'd bought...but it came to my attention right after the return period expired on the one I did buy... http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?SKU=DDPDJ151X&bhcp=1 As it stands, I'll probably be buying this the next time I get a cash windfall. BTW, on another note, I've been buying a lot of Orb vinyl over the past year or two...and I have a bunch of extras. If you have anything to trade (including live shows), or have specific needs, let me know. Eventually, I'll be putting together a trade list, with all kinds of rare Orb goodies...
