Hi, I'm trying to find out about a particular tune - I believe it to be by the orb, but could be mistaken (it was certainly on an old orb tape I had years ago anyhow). The lyric goes a little like......"roots music......roots music...music afor art....etc." The exact lyrics may have become clouded with time, but hopefully that is near enough to recognise. I just want to know what tune and what album so it can be restored into my collection - hopefully I didn't dream it and someone knows what I'm on about. Many thanks to anyone who can help :¬) Neil Flux Technical Consultant Client Services Retail Logic Limited ü Web http://www.retail-logic.com/ ? I think that the "roots music... roots music" sample is from a remix of Towers of Dub, but I'm not positive. I'll do some listening when I get back home from work, if I can confirm this before I see a definite answer on the list I'll write back. On a related note, The Orb has inspired me to dig deep into the "Roots" of old school reggae and dub music. There aren't many types of music (maybe there aren't any) that have as much soul and feeling as roots reggae. I once read a statement made by Alex Patterson (not sure where it came from, or whether or not he actually said it) indicating that one of the reasons he began creating music was to open people's eyes to dub and reggae. I wonder how true this is. Can anyone confirm the source of this statement? David
One prominent use of the sample is on Perpetual Dawn/Ultrabass II mix. This is fairly easy to find - check Ebay etc. When they played this at Cydonia/San Fran show it was INSANE. So, I'm pretty sure that's the one you're after - it's easily one of my favorite Orb tracks/versions. Messagewoops, that's what i meant... perpetual dawn, not towers of dub. they're both heavy on the dub, and song names never stick inside of my brain. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tim C To: 'What were the skies like when you were young?' Well, there's the "ambient mix" of ToD on flip of Perp Dawn single I have (just Ultrabass II on the one side, ToD on the other). Cover has large OrbInDub in Ultraworld font on front, and "remix" on the back. I also have the regular Perp Dawn 12", which was much cheaper but found it later! So, confusion is easily justified, even beyond musical similarity that you note! Yep, it in in fact Perpetual Dawn - Ultrabass II mix... my favourite Orb track of all times. And let me echo Tim's sentiments about the SF show and that song - incredible! Certainly one of my favourite live Orb moments! You can get the cd single of Perpetual Dawn, or I believe UF Off also has it on there. =) rachel
