Greetings all, I must say this has been a great year Orb-wise as far as I am concerned. More Orb releases than I can keep up with-including UFOrb2!-more list-chatter than I can read (I am now in the process of catching up on 30 messages), and to top it all off my wife conspired with a Lister to get me a birthday present from LX himself! Not so bad turning 40 after all.. (Yep, it arrived this week.) Seriously, many, many thanks, Gavin! Next time you are in Toronto to visit your friends and a show, let me know and I will get your tickets for you. I am blown away (or "really, really chuffed" for the benefit of English readers). Cheers, Dave. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=17043 <http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=17043&l=305a4&id=622601441> &l=305a4&id=622601441

Happy 40 Dave. I know that's a milestone birthday and that they usually come woth some strong emotons. I'm glad to hear that it went well for you. I'll let you know the next time I'm passing through yr area. It seems that even Canada now is expensive to visit with the weak dollar... Glad I could help spread the wonder that is the Orb. It's the least I could do, for what LX has done for me since 2001. Gavin

I had a few rotations of The Dream this weekend and i noticed that Tim Bran's mark/stamp is clearly on it. The DreadZone style is all over it! This would normally make me very happy as i was a Dreadzone fan for years, but this time i think the Dreadzone sound does not mix so well with the sound Orb was so well known for. Call me an old fart for complaining, but it's just how i feel. Don't get me wrong, the music sounds nice and all that, and the mixing/engineering is near perfect.. I just hoped the sound would be a bit more like "it's a small world" from the latest Orb sessions disc. Somewhat more rough than this silky sleek Dream.. I am just venting my thoughts here... Anyone else feel the same? R _________________________________________________________________ Nooit meer offline met Windows Live Messenger op je mobiele telefoon http://www.getlivemobile.nl/
hi there ramon...
I am just venting my thoughts here... Anyone else feel the same?
the more i've listended to it the more i think its a bit of a mixed bag there are some really wonderful bits, the title track for instance but there are also a couple that to be honest are annoying, especially ddd!!! not sure about the vocals too...but on the whole a much more enjoyable spin than some of the more recent excursions... wonder if the uk version will differ from the jap import? like bicycles'n'tricycles did? cheers... + ++ theORBscureDDJ ++ + ++ http://www.theorbscureddj.blueyonder.co.uk ++
Mixed bag, that is a good description. R

The following is random thoughts on some of the tracks. Im still 'getting into it' or trying to at least. Im not going to let my first impressions cloud my judgement and will give it many more plays Some of the early tracks remind me of other stuff from the past. ie. The whining electric guitar on the first track reminds me system 7. I quite like the vocals on track 2. Its hooky. It allows me to anchor to it and to take something from the track to remember - same as track 4. The basslines are awesome and I agree with gel-sol that the whole album is very sample intensive - but none that stick. Katskills is instantly likable, codes is by far my favourite but perhaps thats because I have had longer to absorb it due to its release on Art of Chill 4. I rather like orbisonia for its non rhythmic 'playing with sound' approach. Thats it for now. Cheers, KL --- theorbscureddj <theorbscureddj@blueyonder.co.uk> wrote:

Well, thanks again and see you when the loonie (Canadian dollar--aw, you know that) is back at its proper place: 80 cents on the greenback! This week Canadian triumphed for our dollar, then cried the next day when all our factories shut down. Meantime I'd better get to buying everything on eBay before this is over! Dave.
