I'm interested in what mixing/editing/recording equipment you currently use or recommend?

Also how the whole remix system works - generally do you remix up a killer track and approach the original artist, or is it usual for them to approach you? Hyperthetical question: If say, someone didn't know it was your track, but so loved one of your remixes (requiem, floating leaf/sea dub say) they decided to try mixing/editing for the very first time. The results where so good they burn't this track with others onto a CDR and gave hundreds away, for free. Then certain listeners so enjoyed this they put it on the net for download.
