Re: [Orb] Stolen land
Well that begs the question: how far back are you willing to go? I mean, do you stop at where things lay 200 years ago? 500? 1000? 2000? 5000? The migration of humans across the globe has been varied and fluid, and arguably started in africa. I mean, if we all went back to where we "came from" if you are looking at a 200,000 year time frame, we'd all end up in chad, which would be worse than where we are now. I agree that europeans arriving in the new world did some horrendous things to the native populations, but those were just a drop in the long long history of atrocities committed by us humans against one another. If you want to deal with atrocities, which is a worthwhile pursuit, deal with it outside of the petty causes.... In terms of the land ownership question, I would argue that, instead of worrying about where you are "from" or where you should return to, we should focus instead on the more fair and realistic goal of trying to open up any land to anyone who wishes to go there. If you were born in the US and you want to go live in australia, more power to you! If you were born in germany and want to move to puerto rico, go for it! I mean what claim does anyone have really to any land? The land will outlive you, making your claim to ownership ephemeral at best. Just be fair! Let people live where they want... As long as you dont displace people, I say go where you want! And if you want to go somewhere where you have to displace someone who's already there, then make an equitable deal. Otherwise, find somewhere else or stay where you are.
-without help, as a holier than thou Canadian, what's your take on the following: -the world would be a much better place if all settlers would return to where their forefathers came from?
