blah blah blah (hearing damage) blah blah blah WHAT?!?! WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?! I saw Megadeth once. It was the highest sound level ever measured at the theater. 140db+ inside of the ceiling. The show went like this: "This is a song of the new album..." GZZZZZ!!!GZZZZZZ!!!GZZZZZZ!!!GZZZZZZ!!! I think playback has been mentioned as critical in this sound quality argument. I'm talking about listening in my goddamned car! I'm NOT listening to a MacIntosh pre-amp driving a pair of esoteric tube amps powering Genelec monitors through Krell wire playing a tube 24bit D/A converter based magnetically suspended cd driver v. a $10G turntable with a $5G pre-amp and a $20G cartridge in a perfectly tuned listening room sitting in the sweet spot. I can't even afford a foot of fucking Krell wire. And if you're listening to your music from almost any computer the path that sound is taking before it gets to your ears passes through some total SHIT. Most people's cd or DVD players are SHIT that was made in fucking CHINA by someone that HATES you. The cables that go to their crap speakers are SHIT. The cables between all the components came from Radio Shack and are complete and utter SHIT. The vast majority of new stereos in the world are SHIT. Under those conditions the FM radio sounds almost as good as the cd player. They both sound like SHIT. So anyone that has a problem with me listening to mp3s in my car can WALK! ____________________ www.psychicreform.com ____________________
dithering is interesting i think digi still has a way to go when you want to turn a 24 bit signal into a 16 bit signal say for burning onto cd what you do is apparently fire a high frequency signal into the audio and then remove it the other side of the calculation when you are transfering 24 bit to 16 bit there are lots of calculations that have bits left over and these have to be smoothed out you would notice these most on a classical recording section where the level is low effectively making the recording a lower sample rate that becomes kind of crunchy im just trying to learn about this its kind of confusing for a dumb ass like me im kind of fascinated by the difference between analog and digi though digi feels like a cheat - it doesnt feel real sometimes i can hear the bits going by shit my life is going digi - help! i get sleepy when my laptop batteries run low HELP! auntyxxx
dithering is interesting
dithering adds noise shaping in the top 8 bits effectively pushing the information in those 8 bits down into the 16 bit ... the apogee uv22 is good at that why anyone would care on this list, i am not sure..oh well -- ____________________________________
mmm mebbe everyone should get more into dithering... i dont know why... god this skunk is good On 9 Feb 2004, at 01:36, -sudden- wrote:
