Yeah. I believe it's one of 5, and frankly, it's shit.
Mickey Mars also turned up on the u.f.off compilation in two different mix forms. The only good thing about it is that strutty rhythm section (that sort of ding changa-din-jang-ga rhythm), otherwise it's quite the Orb's musical nadir. why is everyone so down on mickey mars?? is it the sorta-cheezy indian chants (as if orb never used cheezy vocal samples b4..ha!) ?? Frankly, I think the 7" edit is one of the most interesting pieces of drum n' bass i've heard (that would be the ding changa-din-jang-ga rhythm)... maybe you're all just house-heads with no space for hardstep in your musical cache =P....man, you probably don't like the ganja kru remix of "toxygene" either (which is brilliant) i think one of many tracks off "Cydonia" are a bit closer to their "musical nadir" if you're gonna use that term... This is completely unrelated, but I just got back from seeing Ben Simms spinning some hard/tribal techno on 3 decks (wow!)... does he have any mixes avaiable to the public on CD or mp3 bootlegs floating around? -club HAPPYBEST http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/264/club_happybest.html

Yeah, i like that rhythm. Wicked little strut, that; gets the old head nodding. :)

I don't like the four-on-the-floor beat too much these days myself. I've been going back to old Krautrock to look for interesting beats myself. There's really not a lot to the song though; it's a bit characterless and fidgety like a lot of the songs the Orb were putting out when Andy Hughes was writing, tumbling through variations on a theme and restating samples mechanically without being particularly interesting to listen to. But it's a great rhythm tying it all together, that much i'd be a twat not to concede.

I used to like it. Not so hot on it now, must be a growing old thing. :)

Alright, i'm giving it another listen and perhaps it's not as bad as the Orb's ever been.. :) But i'm not a big fan of the Orblivion period when Andy Hughes was actually writing music with them. Just doesn't grab me at all does that era. This thread started with mention of a 14 minute version of Mickey Mars, though. That's what Matt said was shit. Hey Folks! I'm in a bit of a bind at work: we've got a client in the UK, and we need a song for the soundtrack of a multimedia presentation. It needs to sound upbeat, contemporary, and most importantly "revolutionary" (whatever that means). I've made several recommendations, which keep getting shot down by the Marketing folks (who are middle-aged Americans and I suspect not the least bit in touch with music not on the easy-listening station). If you lovely audiophiles out there have any suggestion on tracks, (and possibly even MP3 files of them) I'd love your help... please email me off-list today! Thanks a million! =) rachel ______________________ Rachel's Shrine to The Orb: http://www.migoto.com/orb
Wow! DJ Lewis is in the lineup for the BadOrb Allnighter - what a treat! If he's half as good as he used to be, it'll be a pure delight! And I'm relieved to see BadOrb is acknowledging their little endeavour has gone to shit and are attempting to get it right... it restores my faith a bit. I am drooling at the thought of the All Nighter - you Brits had better give a full, detailed report the moment you get home!! =) rachel -> rachel Migoto - Marvelous New Media Design http://www.migoto.com 415.355.0587

I don't think it's Andy's influence. Remember, this is the album they didn't want to do; Island forced them. When the title is "U.F.Off" and the cover art is giving the finger, is it hard to believe that the obligatory "new" song for the "greatest hits" album might be a bit of a piss-take? I wouldn't be surprised if they dug something out of the trash, or just went into the studio and screwed around for a couple of hours. That said, I'd still like to hear the long version. (And I always assumed the "needs edit" referred to Kris Needs, rather than it actually needing an edit. Silly me; makes more sense now.) Chris np: System 7 - Seventh Wave

It's your opinion, and I'd like to hear this song to get mine own opinion... -- == gry dodawane do czasopism ================ http://www.markolf.fr.pl == == http://members.tripod.com/markolf ======= marcolphus' discographies ==

i'll second that! and while i love the danceable ambientish groove the orb is known for, Mickey Mars is delicious and really fantastic as far as upbeat stuff goes - it wakes you up and shakes you around but still maintains the depth of an orb track you expect. (and isn't that sample also used by Jah Wobble?) i love the track - and i'd be happy to hear more like it! =) rachel ______________________ Rachel's Shrine to The Orb: http://www.migoto.com/orb
The 7" edit on The Orb's "Airwave Selection" is some slick Orb release. Also purchase the 2 x dics "U.F. OFF" to get the longer mix; although not Fourteen minutes long... Possibly Badorb.com should release "Denz" along with the B-side .feat 14 minutes of "Mickey Mars". That would be purchased by quite a lot of fans...
