RE: [Orb] KLF: Chill Out Remixes
We are talking about different mixes. The mixes I'm talking about are by a guy named Jez, and they were done in the early 1990s. They were all about 20 minutes in length, and often labeled "Chill Out Megamix", which they are not. That's still another mix that's completely different. The ones I speak of are best recognized by the sample of Chris Issak's "Wicked Games" towards the end of the track. Here's an e-mail from the guy who made them, which was sent to the KLF list about this time last year. He sent me his versions which as he said were better quality than any that I've heard before. If he didn't create them he had a damn good copy, or was able to recreate it flawlessly.
Thanks for this info, Don! :-) The only problem with this is that there is a clear sample of a radio commercial for a "2001 Buick LeSabre" in one of the tracks. So maybe someone added that? Or this guy is talking about different mixes. Hmm.... The ones I have are 14 tracks in total: 1 - Brownsville Border On The Tex-Mex Turnaround.mp3 2 - Pulling The Dusk Out Of Ricardo And Falling Fast.mp3 3 - Six Black Cold Hours, Louisiana Going To Coffee.mp3 4 - Dream In Lake Jackson Time.mp3 5 - Madrugada Novus.mp3 6 - Ancient Seems Justified And A Long Time Ago.mp3 7 - Elvis On The Guitar, Soul In My Steel Radio.mp3 8 - Beaumont Somewhen Out Of 3AM.mp3 9 - I Once Heard Wichita Lineman Was A Song.mp3 10 - Lost My Trancentral In Mind.mp3 11 - The By Pass Of Baton Rouge Lights.mp3 12 - A Past Pulling Keeps Me Life Back From A Melody.mp3 13 - And Into Rock Radio Beyond The Nineties....mp3 14 - Up Again, Alone With The Coming Dawn.mp3 Are these the same as the ones you have? _jason_
"Here's one for you all.
I finally caught up with the rest of the world and bought a computer. Got myself a mac from a friend ( he's a designer) in march of this year. One of the first things i do is go to a music download site (limewire) and type in KLF ( i've been a "FAN" of there work for many years) All the familiar stuff shows up but also something called CHILL OUT MEGA MIX ( ULTRA RARE ) so i promptly hit download. Thats where it got interesting.
You see in the late 80's my social life was one of raves, clubs. djing and general over indulgence, I was in and out of record shops and doing chill out tapes for the early hours back at friends houses. I started one such soundtrack in late '90 and wrapped it up early in '91. ( please stick with me, there is a reason for the long intro)
I didn't sell or do copies of the mixes, they where for myself and close mates. I did however trade one mix with a guy down south ( still know his name ). I'd been buying some rare KLF items from him and he'd asked if i had anything interesting.
Now fast forward 13 years. it turns out that the ULTRA RARE MIX is the very same peace i had created. THE original work was 22.34 long ( Half the length of a 45min cassette, because my fostex portastudio ran at double speed ) the tape i sent to aforementioned guy had the original mix plus several remixes, breakdowns and dubs. These have cropped up in various guises, WHAT GOES ON ? COMING DOWN OFF E etc etc.
There's a lot more i could prattle on about but the main point is that it's not some collaboration by the KLF and ALEX PETERSON, or some unreleased gem, it's just a MESS ABOUT by a 23 year old in his bedroom in Lancashire.
I can support these claims. I still have the original master tapes and would gladly give any of you a direct copy on CD. ( the copy that has been bootleged suffers from tape slip and isn't a patch on the original quality )
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
Mad what comes around eh. DISCUSS !!!!!!!!"

So anyone have any idea who did these? I take it it was not LX. Not sure, but I think they are 2001-ish, and I don't think they have his "sound" of that time. Some are good, great at times, some are fairly weak. Overall seem kinda unpolished / unfinished, but some great moments in there too.
Anyone have any more info?
