Thanks for the info and site ben, it explains exactly whats happening to me.. yeah actually, that is a problem with the mp3 format itself. From what I understand, there is no way to prevent that, which is why people have created gapless plugins for mp3 players.
on the http://www.r3mix.net (I think) page, they tell about all there is to know about mp3's (use lame with the --r3mix switch) and they warn about ripping live cd's because of that blip between tracks. They suggest ripping the entire cd as one track, and encoding *that* track to mp3. but for an audio disc, I'd put the tracks in and burn it.
