1) To put on a better show for friends (at burning man), I've recently purchased a number of trippy DVD's.
Movie images I particularly like: a) "Liquid crystal vision", b) "Alien dreamtime" with Terence McKenna - (thanks for the recommendation Mike Vandevelde), c) "AV3 -the innerscape adventures", and d) "Strange attractors". Anyone else have any recommendations?
I'm still trying to master the set up, but with 3 old laptops, 2 (borrowed) projectors, screen, simple mixer, portable cd player and portable sound system, I've been able to get something that should keep them happy. The DVD's are projected, usually overlapped (sometimes speeded up or reversed) and the soundtracks, my .wav files and cd's manually mixed in and out as required. How do you professional guys do it? - you need to evolve an extra limb for this process.
Overlapping DVD's e) "AV:X.02 Spaced out" and f) "For all mankind", seem to go particularly well with some of my nasa remix stuff. "Mankind" is the source of ALL the Orb's nasa samples and it's soundtrack contains Eno's CD "Apollo (atmospheres & soundtracks)", so is great to sample and layer into the orb remixes. With the nearly full moon in the desert sky, there should be some space travel and at least one moon landing.
Did you know the full sample was: "30 minutes from the command module Pete said to me do you want to fly this thing". "The people at mission control won't like that". "Don't worry we are on the backside of the moon, they'll never know"!
Another quote I like (don't know which {"buddist"} astronaut): "we have seen as much in 10 days as most men see in 10 lifetimes" -ha.
Images from Imax movies: g) "Cosmic Voyage", h) Blue Planet, i) Origins of life, j) Genesis, etc, also overlap nicely for a richer experience.
