Big day for me yesterday as I got both the Token EP and Komfort 12" finally. The first track off of the Token EP, "Oh Shit" is awesome, the vocal samples definitely had to be from LX, they really reminded me of the samples from Majestic "like a loud. . ." The rest of it was pretty good too, but they definitely would have been better off leaving Magic on the cutting room floor. I also think it's awesome that Malicious Damage includes stuff like the medallion and the badges with their releases. Wouldn't it be great if all labels appreciated our business that much? I was very impressed with the Komfort 12". Honestly I think moving in this direction (which sounds to me like Pole or the other scape artists like Jan Jenelik) is the way for the Orb to go. Using kitchy samples and cheesy vocals (a la parts of B&T and Cydonia) just sounds dated or plain bad in the year 2005. Sure this 12" sounds more like Fehlmann (I'm not sure how involved LX was in producing this music, I think maybe I hear his stamp on the acid lines in one of the tracks), but damn it the music sounds good. Who cares if it doesn't sound like the Orb if it sounds like something new and fresh? The bottom line is that I found it an enjoyable record to listen to and that's what really matters. I'm actually excited (rather than nervous as I was with B&T) to hear the new Kompakt full length. My two cents. Jason
