For many people tweaking ports is totally alien to them. For example, I live in a building where there are about 6 private wireless networks I can see. Half of which aren't password protected because the owners don't understand how to set up a protected network. It seems simple, but if you don't know how to secure your wireless network you probably won't understand what ports do either. I had very few problems getting onto the FTP site except when trying to run under passive mode.
I have to say this, but most of the problems occur with those who have little experience configuring FTP with network firewalls and the new Windows XP built in firewall.
Odd. I'm doubly firewalled on XP pro and bittorrent successfully all of the time with no muddling about. In my experience, it might be a matter of a quick port tweak or permitting this or that app to access the net, but that's it. _______________________________________________ Orb mailing list Orb@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/orb Report list abuse to list-abuse at studio-nibble.com
