Lucky you.
Thanks.
So how many other people did you spam?
Didn't spam anyone. Maybe veggie-burgered someone, or maybe veggie buggered someone, but didn't spam anyone. Spam's greasy and gives you gas, and god knows what it's made of, so I never touch the stuff.
And don't you feel great taking advantage of those who clearly don't know any better?
Actually all I'm really concerned with is bills and making them. Didn't really think anything of it, other than, hey my rent's paid, and perhaps I can go see my friends in France in a couple of months. Maybe I'll let my other two copies of Orbscure and Aubrey go in the next crunch if the market holds up for how much I need. I like them so I'll probably keep one of each cuz I do listen to them. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm just trying to get my keep. Taking advantage? I'd've been cool if they'd just sat there for a while ... but they didn't. I thought, well let's see if they go for this, because after all the online market is a lot weirder than the face to face record swap market is.
$125 for Orbscure Trax? $50 for Toxygene?
Yep. I averaged numbers on ebay the last four times I saw each item went up and that's what they came out to be. I did consider what these same things sold for at OM in the Village, but they didn't really change the figures. But that's where those numbers came from. I figure they're quite topical as well. (Want to know where I found them? I bought a lot of 10,000 CD's wholesale to sell around the time Orbscure came out, and four of each were in there. Except for one of the Orbscures ... it was handed to me by a promo guy when I left a Stereolab show a few months later.) If you were
able to get those prices, bully for you, but that doesn't make them any less out of line or justify crowing about it in front of the people who know better.
Well, I fail to see the out-of-lineness. My position is, "here it is, ya want it? This is what you have to give me for it." Ain't nothing at *all* wrong with that, unless you really want it and you can't give me this for it, but that wouldn't be my affair, would it? Crowing? Nah. Informing. Why should I crow about it? Ya win some, ya lose some. I just happened to win in this case, which is good because it *is* my living. I figure the buyers won because they got what they wanted. Record prices go up and down like the stock market. Perhaps there's a warehouse somewhere with hundreds of these items, plenty to go around, and if so, if they surface, the collector's market price goes down. Also consider the fact that they all went to Japan, where the prices I was asking is the price of 2 or 3 CD's ... maybe 4 ... there and there's far less of a chance they'll just run into these things like I seem to have a knack for. And that I paid about $25 in shipping apiece only charging them $5 to ship, because, hey I'm a nice guy. While I'm at it, I should point out that what I got isn't terribly reflective of their actual worth. It was worth that much to the guy that bought it but not to me, else I wouldn't have sold them. In other words these things are only worth what I convince someone to pay for them at that moment in time. Next week those people who bought the stuff may be kicking themselves, but of course, it's much too late then.
Feh.
Chris (and yes, it *is* spam when you advertise a link to your nearly 1,900 items, less than 1% of which are topical, *and* don't even bother to link to the "O"'s)
Well, you're a bright boy, and I figured you'd have thought I'd have wanted you to look around a bit as well, not just at the Or's. The Gruesome Twosome 12" is still out there, fairly cheap, cuz no one knows what it is (probably because it isn't all that great). So's the Material 12", but that doesn't go for nearly as much now that a stereo version is digitised commonly in all countries. And the Numan album is out there (although I hadn't researched that price yet so it's probably out in the clouds just in case someone really really wants it). If you watch it it might go way down soon enough. Space is still out there. So's Fire and Water, but that's probably tangential to you. And there's bugger all comps out there that have the odd Orb or Sun Electric track (most of the Instincts are out there). There's plenty for Orbies to be interested in, and I adjust prices all the time. You gotta keep revisiting me to get the deal on the next batch, and I don't know any seller who doesn't work that way. So it boils down to that I informed the way I did, and you wouldn't have done it the same way, and now you're upset? Reality never worked the sour grapes way for me. Besides I like my grapes sour. The more they pucker your face, the better. So ya think this was advertising? Perhaps you've not seen Picadilly or Times Square. cheers. Keef. ===== my record collection is up for sale. Lots of rarities. Lots of surprises. keefycub.gemm.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo! Music Experience http://launch.yahoo.com
