I don't think the movie made enough money for them to justify making another.  Those CG movies are extremely expensive to make.  The games cost less and they sell millions of copies for $50, rather than $5-$10 movie ticket price.  IMO the movie was poorly written anyway, so they're better off sticking to games.

Yeah, Square did the movie -- they also do all the FF video games.
It was a couple months after FF was released that they said they would
be shutting down. Dunno the exact reasons, but sadly they did. The
company is still around, they're still making video games.. just no
more movies from them.
