A MAGIC ORB MOMENT:
In the summer of 1995 I used to go into the office on Sundays trying to teach myself Unix programming. I had a Sun SPARC5 with a port of the original Doom 3d game, but they hadn't ported the copyrighted soundtrack, so I rigged up my discman to some external Wharfedale Diamond speakers to provide my own soundtrack. Sitting in front of the screen I was perfectly in the sweet spot and put on Orbus Terrarum. I'm stuck in a completely deserted office, and I've got the difficulty level all the way down to "Don't Hurt Me!" so I'm really just exploring the landscape (hardly any shooting to disturb the flow). Without the original busy midi soundtrack, and omitting the shoot all the monsters tedium, I had this total immersion feeling, like I'm really in the landscape exploring, and really in the music. Like I'd never understood the language of that album before, and suddenly it was speaking to me. -- Created on Chris's Powerbook
