Nice set last night. Decent turnout for a Monday. LX started out playing some BadOrb highlights (Creature, Multiverse, PrayerBox, to name a few). He wasn't mixing them, but it was nevertheless great to hear someone else playing them through a decent sound system. Once the place filled up a little, he started mixing up some nice 4-on-the-floor styles to keep the dance floor happy. A highlight for me was when he mixed the Hawtin System 7 remix (Alpha Wave?) with the Tenaglia LFC remix. I may have to steal that one. No merch, which I found a little surprising. I wasn't paying attention to the clock, but I'd say he played at least two hours. A good time was had by all. JG

Am I going to dj? My day job supports my habit of making music and buying more hard disks/cd-rs. I toy with the idea of dj'ing. A lot. Still, just a dream...once school and the man is paid off, why not? Even if I just dj to my wife and the walls... Thanks for the info on the turntables. Checked out e-bay and Numark suppliers. I am still wet behind the ears. Time to go harass the local music stores as well. With most turntables, you will need/want a pre-amp before the card. Check out Denon and Stanton. They have 'DJ' models that have digital out. If your soundcard has digital in, this is the way I'd go. No pre-amps, no setting levels, etc.. as close to plug-and-play as possible. If you don't have the digital-input, then just buy whatever. Are you going to DJ? Probably not, so you don't need the highest end with loads of torque. Maybe check out the numark line. lx was in good spirits at the knitting factory last night he was dancing and having a good time fyi: there was no swag for sale anyone know any info about the cover he played of the smith's "there is a light that never goes out" i forgot to ask him myself -chicken

Black Hawk Down -> Rachid Taha -> Steve Hillage

I was surprised to see Steve Hillage's name in the end credits for the movie "Black Hawk Down". Steve worked on Rachid's track "Barra Barra" which is from the "Made in Medina" album. I know Steve has done a lot of production work for Rachid over the years (the albums "Made in Medina", "Diwan" and "Ole Ole" for instance). He also played on those albums and has also done some remixes on some of Rahid's singles. Of all this work, what falls under the "System 7" umbrella? There is the 12" remix of "Non Non Non" that's listed as a "system 7 remix". Is anything else an 'official S7' remix? I have the 'Ya Rayah' CD5 and it has remixes by Hillage, not S7. Is the remix on the "Ach Adani" 12" considered S7 or Hillage? Any others hiding out there?

In the middle of checking out 5 record shops in 5 hours Saturday I stopped by Noise Noise Noise in Costa Mesa. The owner and one staff member were starting a conversation about Dr. Alex Paterson and The Orb. Seems they had just heard he would play the Knitting Factory in Hollywood next Saturday evening. So I jumped in and we discussed most of the Orb's Southern California gigs and LX DJ stops over the years. I was then directed to one of the bins where I was to find The Innersphere 12" of "Out of Body" with the "O.J. Sinbad Mix". Strange in that I just obtained the CD single version (along with an extra copy I'm offering on my list of trade items) just a couple of weeks ago. But that's the way collecting goes. Sometimes several related items turn up at the same time. Thoughts are maybe there was a re-press just recently. FVLL

one quick thought for the moralists. if you purchase a promotional copy from anyone but the artist, you are doubly complicit in ripping the artist off. not only have you deprived them of their (albeit, usually small) percentage, but you increased the promotional budget which is funded directly from the artists' profits
