Yep, Gary's correct. I have been using VC-17 for three years now. I leave my boat slipped in freshwater for 6 months at a time. During the cooler months I find that if I get under the boat and wipe it down about every three to four months it does great. Just the slightest amount of slime starting in that period and it wipes right off. Warmer water requires more frequent wipe down. You don't want to wipe it any more than you have to, though, as you are removing paint when you do it. I add 2-3 coats every at the beginning of each season. Note that the color of the paint changes dramatically after it is submerged for a few days. I use the "original" color. It looks like a copper penny when it goes on. Totally changes after submersion and what color it changes to depends on if it is submerged in fresh or salt water. Still looks good though, and is slicker than all get out when wet. Not the funnest job applying to a lapstrake hull VS a regular hull. I find the small 4" foam rollers that West Marine sells work great for me. The foam wraps around the end of the roller allowing it to get into the corners of the lapstrake. Good luck, and have fun. Don't breathe that copper powder!
