I'm kind of thinking about a cover for the M15. I've been using a tarp over the mast, but I'd kind of like a custom cover. Any ideas? Vendors? Prices?
For mast down (on trailer) coverage, a 10'x16' canvas tarp perfectly covers the M15, will last years and survive strong winds, looks good, and only costs about $80. I am experimenting with using two smaller canvas tarps to cover my S17 mast up, not sure how well that will work.... Sailors Tailor makes excellent quality covers and already knows M boats if you're willing to pay for it. I have one for my Catalina 22 and aren't very happy with how much work it is to put the cover on- it's really large and heavy. If it was in smaller pieces that could be put on one at a time, that would make it way faster and easier I think. I just ordered a cover from the Sailor’s Tailor for an M17. They gave me an option to add Velcro and tie downs for a removable skirt when sitting in my driveway. Plan on between $600-$800, or more depending on options. Chris J. Sent from my iPhone

Hi I am looking for the height of the rudder head stock above the rear transom. If anyone has a M17 with original rudder set up, I sincerely appreciate if you could provide what I am calling "Dimension A" on my attached sketch. Backstory: The rudder had a bit of rot which I chased out with thickened epoxy, epoxy primered and marine top side painted. I failed to accurately record the location of the pintle type rudder fixtures. Upon reassembly, I had a few binding issues. I have removed and disassembled the rudder and am working through the binding issues. If anyone has a sketch of a completed rudder assembly with dimensions I would love a copy. Thank you, TJ de Lacy M17 hull 333
I can measure mine later this week, next time I go sail...not sure when, maybe Thursday or Friday. But someone else may get to it sooner. Mine is not actually "original" in that my M17, #38 from 1974, came with a two-pintle counterbalanced rudder, not the later sliding three-gudgeon rudder. However I have retrofitted a three-gudgeon sliding rudder, so I can use either (pending repositioning the pintles on the two-pintle rudder to match the top and bottom two of the three gudgeons). As long as the tiller clears the transom with a bit to spare, functionally should be fine. Height doesn't have to exactly match some particular other boat, does it? cheers, John On 7/31/23 20:03, tdelacy@wavecable.com wrote:

Thank you John. With respect to clearance, I believe you are correct. My last install had the tiller just impacting the rod. I would like to move rudder head stock higher. Just want to double check my boundaries with other boats and have a piece of mind that I am in the ball park. OK I went sailing yesterday...forgot to take a ruler or tape measure but did a biometric measure with my hand (fancy name for using body parts to measure :-) and then put a ruler on it when I got home. So this is approximate but within 1/8 - 1/4 inch I would say. Dimension "A" on my M17 is about 4 1/4 inches (top of transom to top of rudder). The clearance between top of transom and bottom of tiller is about 1 inch. HTH, John On 7/31/23 20:03, tdelacy@wavecable.com wrote:

Thank you John, According to my model, I need 5 1/16 for the tiller to clear the sliding rudder rod and I have 1 13/16 clearance between the tiller and the top of the transom. So ... I may be in the big league ball park but not the T-ball ball park. I still have 31 1/2" of rudder beneath the keel. As long as it works...! Not sure what you mean about tiller clearance for the sliding rudder rod? In my setup the top of the rod is just a bit above the top gudgeon. Nowhere near the top of the transom or anywhere it could interfere with tiller. cheers, John On 8/3/23 20:57, tdelacy@wavecable.com wrote:
