The Best Sailing on the East Coast
Best East Coast Sailing Far and Above the best cruising ground is the Maine Coast. The best sailing is the area from New York to Marble Head Ma where you get the nice reliable sea breeze most of the summer. The cruising in this area is also mighty fine. The best combination of good sailing winds and lots nice isolated anchorages has to be the Chesapeake Bay in the spring or fall. Of course the above is just an opinion so come an form your own! This year you can cruise both the Chesapeake Bay and Buzzards Bay to MarthaÂs Vineyard and Cape Cod with fellow Montgomery sailors. The Chesapeake Bay Cruise for 2006 will start on Memorial day weekend, May 27th, and run for up to a week of delightful cruising on the Southern part of the Bay. The plan is to have a one way trip where we launch in the Southern part of the Bay (up wind) and spot a couple of cars at takeout points along the way North (down wind). This way we can be true gentlemen and never have to sail to windward and if you only want to stay a couple of days you will still see a lot of creeks and gunkholes in a pristine part of the Bay. We are also planning a late August cruise to Buzzards Bay From Fairhaven to Cuttyhunk, to Menemsha, to Lake Tashmoo, Edgartown, Cotuit, and Hadley harbor. 3 of us Montgomery owners did a weeks cruise here in 2004 and it was fantastic. It was almost as nice a Maine. Better winds in Vineyard sound than the Penobscot but the lobsters are more expensive in Ma. This cruise will run the August 26 th through September 2nd. Send me a note off of the Montgomery list if you have any interest and I will add you to my cruising distribution list. If you can possibly make it get on the list as these cruises are unforgettable. If you cannot make it to any of the east coast cruises I would encourage you to make the San Juan cruise if at all possible. Cruising in company with other Montgomery owners adds significantly to you sailing pleasure. Try it, youÂll like it.
