Hi Will, We have owned and used a pile of boats over the last 40+ years. I would encourage you to not settle for less than what you want. Just keep your cash ready, and one will come up. That said, understand that no boat is perfect. I once thought the West Wight Potter 15 would be perfect for us. It was too small, too cramped. Too slow. I drove from Maine to Virginia to buy it. So perhaps get something small for fun day sailing until you can find what you want. On any of these commonly available swing keel boats, if you have to drop that keel and redo it, you're in for a big job. Also, most have poor hull to deck joints that leak. My 1985 vintage M-15 is in Washington State and not for sale yet, but each summer my aging body and loss of coordination and strength make me wonder if this will be the last season before it needs to contribute to the cost of my retirement home. I will be interested to read how you do selling yours. Steve, I'm not Will but I can tell you that I sold my 1981 M-15 last month to a local (northern California) experienced sailor. It sold within a month of listing to the second person to see it. Nice Montgomerys sell quickly I believe. I got too old and with too many health problems to feel completely safe single handing, so I very reluctantly let it go.
