considering the M17...request for info
Hi, I'm glad to see that there is an active group of Montgomery owners here. We have been searching for the perfect(for us) boat for sometime. The M-17 meets most of our criteria and we're getting very close to placing an order when I stumbled on to a bunch of "stuff" on the net that suggested that the builder had some financial and credibility issues. If any of you have recent experience with the builder and can give me some info I would appreciate it. Also, I'm interested in knowing how easy(or difficult) it is for one person to raise the mast on the 17. I live in Portland Or. and will be using the boat on lakes, rivers and on Puget Sound. If there are any active Montgomery sailers in the Portland area I would love to hear from you. Thanks
Hello Jeff? The stuff you stumbled on is just stuff as far as I can tell. The builder is very active and supportive on this board. I didn't buy my M17 new but there are others around that have. If I had the resources I would be ordering a new M23 from him right now. Buy the M17, you won't regret it. As for your other question, there are several Montgomeries in the Portland area. I'm in Roseburg but we would love to have another Oregon M-boater. Several of us keep our boats at Fern Ridge and group sails are always a possibility. Mark, Those of us snowbound in the frozen North would love to armchair sail with pics of Montgomery group sails, should you have any to post to the MSOG site. I'm 64 yrs old, pretty much a couch potato, but have no trouble lifting the mast on my M17. I lift it and raise it in one continuous motion, grab the forestay and fasten it, no problem. lowering is the same, just be careful none of the stays get caught on anything in the process. good luck I think you will like the Montgomery Wayne Yeargain M17 #204 "Intrepid" ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeffco923@aol.com To: montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com Sent: Wednesday, April 03, 2002 10:15 PM Subject: M_Boats: considering the M17...request for info Hi, I'm glad to see that there is an active group of Montgomery owners here. Hi - I recently purchased a Montgomery 15 directly from the factory. I found Bob Eeg, the owner, to be honest and interested in us. He takes a great deal of pride in producing a quality product. We drove down to Ontario, CA in November (2001) to see the boat, which was still being laid-up in the mold. We gave him a $2,500 deposit at that time. In December we went back and picked up our new ³Brynn² on schedule. Everything was done as promised. He even had our new boat¹s name on the stern at no cost to us in a beautiful style script. And since we had ordered a swim ladder installed on the same side of the stern as the name, he also put our boat¹s name on each side of the boat as well and on his on initiative. All-in-all, it was a very refreshing and pleasant experience. I heartily recommend Bob and his quality boats. Dudley Peterson M-15 ³Brynn²
