I was considering repainting the exterior of our Montgomery 15. Discussion on this group convinced me otherwise and I just spent some time polishing. That polishing ended up the way for me to go and I am happy I didn't mess with putting paint on the exterior (other than the bottom!). IMO unless it is really really really bad buff out the smooth parts, wax, and then be sure to wax every fall and then again in the spring. :: Dave Scobie
My experience was that I could bring the finish back by careful polishing. Jerry suggested it and the result was excellent. Monty’s have excellent gel coat , thick enough. Newer boats not so much. I bought a McGuire kit, but started with a cutting paste. Deck polished with a rotary brush with deck scrub compound, no flattening of non skid. Sealing after essential or open coat even more prone to stain after cleaning. Used 303. Hull waxed, along with smoother parts of cabin trunk. People think the boat is new. Aftercare is wax 2x per year. Sun is the killer if boat stored in open. That being said there are excellent fiberglass painting options but it must be done carefully with some research. I’d check out Linear Polyurethane spray applied. System Three is a good company. If one is an oil base brush on fan, Home builders of wood epoxy boats are really liking Rustoleum marine topside. IMHO latex house paint would be a disaster. Ed M15 375 Murrelet Sent from my iPhone
