Find out, by dropping the board if necessary to inspect where the slop is coming from. My 1977, M17 has no slop, hull #258. I would guess the pivot bolt may have somehow woggled a larger hole or corroded away so there is too much space now in the bore hole which accepts the thru bolt. If that is the cause you may be able to drill out the hole in the board to accept a larger diameter bolt and do likewise to the cb sides of the slot so your new bolt will fit thru all the holes necessary for it to become the new pivot bolt. At least the cb well sides have not swelled and pinched your board in the slot. Once the board is out you can always add thickness to it via epoxy fill on both sides of the board if the pivot bolt area looks ok. When reinstalling the board it is a good idea to slide a piece of rubber gasline hose to the stop bolt set lower in the keel. My boat #310 did not have any centerboard wobble either but the pivot hole was slightly elongated. I drilled it out a bit bigger and put in a bronze sleeve/bushing to maintain the original hole/bolt size. I haven't done this the shimming yet, but will on my M15. My plan is to use proper thickness HDPE cutting boards cut into two long strips, one on each side of the slot. They will be attached with West Systems G/flex using an alcohol wipe + flame treat process as described on their website for HDPE bonding.
