Ya gotta love a GPS...it's made 'navigators' out of most of us.For $99 ya can buy a basic garmin and get speed,heading,coarse to a way point,distance travelled etc.Pretty amazing really !! But..BUT..to go coastal cruising with out a handheld compass and the simple basic knowledge of how to take a 2 or 3 point'fix'...just incase..well..just don't sit right with me.Sure it won't be accurate to within 15ft,but it will get ya home and there is a huge comfort facter in knowing that if the GPS packs it in you will be OK. They are GREAT,inexpensive and I wouldn't be without one....but DON"T take my compass away. Frank M15 #639
