What are you skippers using for trailer lights. I now have a light bar that I take off at launch time. The problem is that it has been known to come off the trailer when hauling the boat and drag down the hwy pulled by the wires :(. Any one using LED's ? Are they waterproof? Where do you skippers get them. Capt'n James A. Sadler skipper sailing vessel Pelican M-15
someone in SCRED's past was motivated to make connecters between the trailer tail lights and the wires running on the frame. the lights are those 'cheap' kind you can find in a kits for $29.99. they are _are not_ waterproof. it is nothing to disconnect the wires using the connecters and using a wrench to take the lights off the frame (this is one of the 'old' steel trailerlights). the time is 1min or so to remove or re-attach. i also like this as when i store the boat i remove the lights. this is one less reason for a thief to take the boat ... no lights on the trailer a likely (i hope) cause a COP to notice. pictures available upon request. dave scobie M15 #288 - SCRED visit Scred's www-site: www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred jim sadler <jimsadler@jascopacific.com> wrote: What are you skippers using for trailer lights. Something for newbies to remember when trailer launching: If you take off the trailer lights, or use submersibles, either way,?it is very important to disconnect the trailer connection?from your tow vehicle when launching. This will keep you from possibly blowing hot light bulbs when you put the brakes in the water. Heat or a bad connection can transfer from your vehicle to water which is a no-no. When I sold the boat, I was going through the piles of spares and must have found half a dozen opened packages of trailer bulbs from on-the-road repairs.... OBTW, remember to check your trailer wheel bearings at the same time. Yes, disconnect if you have incandescent trailer lights to keep the bulbs from cracking; but with LED's there is no need. And 12 volt DC isn't going to do anything to you in the water! --Gary On Jun 1, 2008, at 7:38 PM, jslubliner@aol.com wrote:

I use LED's and yes, they are waterproof and you don't have to unplug at launch because they don't get hot and crack. They are the best way to go IMHO. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 sailboat #637 'Hydeaway 2' We can't change the wind, but we can trim our sails. Sailing is like "African Queening" thru life. I ordered LED's when I bought the Pacific trailer and there was no extra charge. You can also buy them at Wallmart and at truck supply stored. Most of the highway trucks and many newer busses now use LED's because of reliability and low current draw. Even saw a U-Haul trailer with them yesterday. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 sailboat #637 'Hydeaway 2' We can't change the wind, but we can trim our sails. Sailing is like "African Queening" thru life.
