Introduction and question for David Grah
Hello Monty owners! I purchased a 1981 Monty 15 Hull #126 last year. I'm also new to this email list and the trailersailor.com forum as well. I live in southern California and sail out of Newport Beach and Long Beach mostly. I have many years of sailing experience, but mostly on dinghies and the Lido 14. The Monty 15 is my first "keel" boat so I'm getting used to the feeling of having some ballast under my feet. First of all, thank you to all the long-term members who contribute such a wealth of information. It is great to have this email list along with the trailersailor forum as well. Anyway, I have a question for David Grah - I really like your videos on YouTube. I just saw the one you posted a couple weeks ago sailing at Maligne Lake in Canada - at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCAuhg9vBHw My question is that at the 2:45 mark in the video you say "It was warm before the little knockdown..." then all of a sudden your son is wrapped in a towel. Is there a story there? What happened? You don't elaborate on the video so I thought I would ask and see if I can learn something. I've been used to getting knocked down on my Sunfish and also on my Lido 14 on occasion, but with the Monty 15 I was hoping to avoid this scenario. Thanks for you insight. I'd love to ask you some more questions as well about your trips to the channel islands. I've been a little hesitant to go that far off shore until I feel comfortable with the Monty 15, but really inspired by your trips to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island as well as to Mexico. You really use that trailer and boat to the fullest. I learn a lot just watching your YouTube videos and seeing you enjoy your boat with your family. Anyway, this is getting long, but want to say hello to everyone and thanks again. Blair Monty 15 #126
