Re: M_Boats: M15 Second reef and tiller locking
Tim: for locking the tiller i recommend the TillerClutch by WaveFront. this is absolutely the best tiller locking system i've ever used ... and i've broken and used many types. http://www.wavefrontmarine.com/ 15 knots is, in my opinion, when you need to put in a a first reef for the M15. remember that luffing the main isn't a good way to de-power the rig on the M15 because there is no backstay. you _must_ keep tension on the main sheet to keep the rig from rocking forward and bagging the jib (causing the boat to fall off and heal more). at 18-20 you want to put in a second reef. about 25 you need to go to a storm jib. the M15 doesn't sail well to weather under jib or main alone. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com --- On Wed, 7/25/12, Tim Erwin <sailtim@yahoo.com> wrote:
I am going to address the issue of being able to temporarily lock the tiller for whatever reason. I like the forespar lock box that is used with a forespar tiller extender. One negative right off is that I'm going to have to cut a sizable hole in my beautiful boat. I do like that system however. Then it seems like a lot of you have hardware on the tiller with a line running through it. Friction on the line holds the tiller in place. I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks, Tim Erwin. I'm sending my mainsail to sailcare for a stain removal. While my sail is there they will put a second set of reefing for $ 95.00. I sail on the Texas coast, near Corpus Christi. The average wind blows 15 but 20-25 happens often. I think maybe I just answered my own question. I'll have a second set of reef points while it's there. I would appreciate some feedback. Anyone going to the Annapolis Boat Show?? Joe SeaFrog M17
I'll be there :-) 'catsailer' also came to the show. there were a few other list members, but not common posters. :: Dave Scobie --- On Thu, 7/26/12, Joe Murphy <seagray@embarqmail.com> wrote:

to confirm ... i mean the sailboat show, 4-8 Oct '12, not the powerboat show 11-14 Oct '12. 'catsailer', and others, were at the 2011 show. be cool if we could get a group together for this year and share some painkillers and talk M-boats. :: Dave Scobie --- On Thu, 7/26/12, W David Scobie <wdscobie@yahoo.com> wrote:

Joe, I was at the 2011 show, but hadn't thought about this years show yet. It's only July and Annapolis is only 60 minutes down the road. I'll probably show up and drool over the toys I can't afford. :-) Skip -----Original Message----- From: W David Scobie <wdscobie@yahoo.com> To: For and about Montgomery Sailboats <montgomery_boats@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thu, Jul 26, 2012 7:47 pm Subject: Re: M_Boats: Annapolis Boat Show to confirm ... i mean the sailboat show, 4-8 Oct '12, not the powerboat show 11-14 Oct '12.
