Gordon, Thanks for your support ! You may help or participate in a number of ways: Of course we would love to see you sailing in the desert in January - but that is a long and arduous drive from the Twin Cities and we understand that may not be possible. One may participate by sponsoring our 'Team WrinkleBoat' in efforts to raise funds with the help of the community (BTW -again, from the past efforts of community support - a huge 'THANK YOU' to all who have sponsored us in the past - thanks, it doesn't happen without your support). _Click here: Leukemia Cup Regatta - Desert Mountain States Chapter - Gary Oberbeck_ (https://dsm.dojiggy.com/pledge/index.cfm?585F220813637F7B7E0F01737B741515044...) You can sail at the nearest Leukemia Cup event in your region. You can participate through the Auction at the event (I will have a list of items ASA they are available) there have been some very exciting items -trips, artwork, useful gear etc in the past auctions. I am sure there are other means of assisting the Foundation - I will ask the local liaison for more information. Thank You for your support - the Montgomery Sailing Community has done a 'Bravo Zulu' job in helping out ! Thank You. Gary H.Oberbeck and Steve Witt Team WrinkleBoat
I logged on to your site below, and making a donation is quick and easy. Let's hope you're as fast in the regatta, Gary. Go for it, and let us know how you do! Gordon On Dec 8, 2011, at 9:57 AM, GILASAILR@aol.com wrote:

Has anyone used chargers that connect a usb to a 12v source? Are they safe? Joe SeaFrog
joe: what are you powering? my netbook needs 9V. i didn't want to waste my battery to go up to 120V and then back to nine (it is easy to find these 'inverters'). i did some looking and found a converter that will go direct from 12V to 9V (purchased through amazon.com). the converter has a plug that fits the netbook's power plug. :: Dave Scobie :: Sage Marine --- On Tue, 1/3/12, Joe Murphy <seagray@embarqmail.com> wrote:

I want to charge my Kindle Fire. Everything else I have has a 12v adapter, i.e., cell phone, GPS, handheld VHS, etc. I have a 400W inverter but like you said I don't want to waste my battery. Also, has anyone found a reasonably priced 12v FM/CD radio. I've been told that marine radios suck up a lot more juice than a compact FM/CD unit. Any truth to this??? a friend purchased a Kindle back in november. his is one that is the 'grayscale' screen with the wifi. he gets at least two weeks before needing a charge. i'll ask him if he has a 12v charger.

yes, because the 'in dash' marine radios are designed for the powerboat set ... IMO specifically the ski-boat group that want it loud and LOUDER! because of the unit 'watt' ability they 'suck the juice'. for 'CD' music i use a iPod with a 'dock' that can use it's own batteries (bunch of AAs) or through the boat's 12V. it just so happens the 12v cord for my handheld VHF works great. when i have the 'dock' on 12V it will charge the iPod. if i wish to listen to radio i use the iPod with head phone ... in that setup it will work as a radio (the headphone cord is the antenna). if you want specifics on my setup (ie, brand & model) let me know. :: Dave Scobie :: Sage Marine --- On Tue, 1/3/12, Joe Murphy <seagray@embarqmail.com> wrote:

Dave, Thanks for the advice. I used to have an Ipod but my car got broken into and it along with a camera and GPS got stolen. I keep looking at pawn shops and thrift stores for a replacement. I'm not crazy about the idea of putting out another $240 for a new one. So I just keep looking for a small 'boom' box. The one I have chews up the 6 C batteries and unfortunately it doesn't have a 12v plug setup.
