I’m the guy who bought the ex-Gary Hyde M17 from Gail Russell. Currently working on getting it shipped to New Braunfels, TX to sail on Canyon Lake and Lake Travis. Corpus Christi Bay is a 3 hr tow and we plan to sail there occasionally. I also hope to tow to a few of my bucket list sailing sites, but wife Penny is a bit negative on that. I also plan to participate in a two boat informal race series on Lake Travis with Ken Tothero and his Sage 17. Yes, I know he will beat me. A key part of the pact to allow purchase of this boat is my pledge to complete a lengthy nonsailing to-do list before we launch. I’m hoping for sometime this summer. Gary, many of us engage in quid pro quo Honey Do List negotiations with Spouses in order to sail. We Sailors sympathize. Somehow they just don’t understand when we throw ourselves into voyage prep while seeming to lack energy to mow lawn. Take Heart! As they/ we get older they like having us out of their hair. Edward, I am retired, so my dear loving and loved wife does like her peace and quiet with me out of “our” house, but she is a worrier and wants to watch when I kill myself - so no single-handing; that’s why I bought an M17 rather than an M15. I love the M15 and like the M17. She thinks the M15 is too small, and I want to minimize her unhappiness. Because I’m 72 and endurance is waning, the honey-do list is going to take a while, even with the “new” M17 waiting for me. OOPS, just read this email. Did not mean to cause trouble with your wife who wants to be there when you risk your life.😨 We can sail around here together. My wife may even accompany us since yours will be too. She would have someone to talk to. Oh yeah, I am 74, been retired for about ten years and am trying to stay in some sort of shape. Hey, Gary, enjoy "the ride" (repairs) as much as the destination (launch). You will get to know your craft very well by then. I sailed my first Monty 17 on Lake Travis back in the early 1980's. Gary your mail of sailing on Lake Travis reminded me of when in the mid 70s I crewed on a friend’s J 24. I still remember it as beautiful lake. My friend’s dad had money so also sailed regattas out of Houston Yacht Club. Good memories. Doing up grades on my M17 I bought last year for Lake Ontario. However have 2 ft of snow with zero temps so will be a couple months before I can work on it. It’s in a building but no heat. Thanks for the memory Charlie Sent from my iPhone
