Try the lakes in N. Idaho, Couer D'Alene, or Priest, or Pend O'Reille. A bit further, but fresh water and no I-5 traffic. Priest Lake is excellent for sailing in summer. South wind picks up in the morning and builds all day, then dies in the evening, to do the same thing next day. ~~~_/)~~~ Gary Sent from my iPhone :-)

I've sailed all three of the north Idaho lakes and would have to say that Priest is by far my favorite. The scenery is rugged and beautiful, the sailing is great if you hit the right summer weather pattern, the nights are still and beautiful with more stars than you can imagine, and the trip up thru the Thorofare to Upper Priest Lake is the icing on the cake. If you have access to previous issues of Small Craft Advisor, there is a story I wrote about Priest Lake that was published in Issue #44. Sounds awesome... Are you day-sailing from a marina mostly? Or are there anchorages for overnighting? It looks like not a lot of protected water for anchorages. Are there marinas where one can sleep aboard? thanks, John On 12/21/2018 04:22 PM, Larry Yake wrote:

There are a few marinas where you can get a slip for the night, but I anchor most nights. True, there are no "hurricane holes" where you are sheltered from all winds, but there are numerous bays you can anchor in and points you can tuck behind to get shelter from the whatever wind is in the forecast. Most nights I am the only one anchored there, and in the summertime the nights are usually calm. I prefer to avoid the weekends when I go up there. The lake can get busy during the prime summer months, but weekdays are pretty quiet. On Fri, Dec 21, 2018 at 6:39 PM John Schinnerer <john@eco-living.net> wrote:

Alex, My favorite is Lake Couer D' Alene, big enough for M-15 sailing, but not the weather than can be found on Priest or Pend O'Reille. Put in at the city launch in Couer D' Alene, then plan a day to sail to Harrison where there is an overnight guest dock and good restaurants, then sail the next day the S. end for similar accommodations, or anchor in any of several bays. Steve, the Idaho Lakes are definitely on the list (as are Chelan and Rimrock and Sacajawea on the Snake)- but there is something about salt water that will make me brave I-5 and the mayhem on the other side of Snoqualmie too. Loving all the local advice on sailing destinations that has been shared here! Part of why I focused in on the 15 (over a 17, or heaven forbid one of those dime a dozen Catalina 22s) was the ease of towing and rigging. We may lack big water in Yakima, but my gosh, there's a lot within a few hours reach once the winter weather starts to ease up... Only problem I can see is fitting all those trips in while still holding down a paying job! Yes. Fabulous weather a week ago on Lake Union - sunny, 50s. I didn’t tow the boat over. I instead rented from The Center for Wooden Boats. Sailed two days trying out two different boats, one being the famed Blanchard. Poor winds, slow going but still fun on Lake Union. I did scout boat ramps so the next time Chinook Breeze is going over. Have fun. Better winds on Lake Washington. There is a boat launch at the S. End at Swantown Marina in Olympia or several along the way if you drive further N. There are also launch ramps at Lake Union in Seattle. Steve M-15 # 335

Welcome back! I’m on Whidbey with my M-17, Orli. Is there any interest in folks in and around Puget Sound setting up an email list? I’d love to be in contact with M-15 and M-17 sailors.
