That’s correct skipper .....no Hardware on the port side, I need to also rigg the new main for reefing but I think that is straight forward. I plan to rig only for the first reef point since I day sail out of Oceanside Harbor and usually know what I am in for before casting off. Jim. From your photos it looked like there is a tang (aka a hole to tie a line) on the boom end casting. Use that. The starboard side may be a bit busy, meaning filled with hardware and lines, with the clew reefing stuff. Be sure to locate the control end of the line so it is cleated far enough inboard that when on a reach or down wind it isn't hanging out of reach (aka outboard). I used a clamcleat 211Mk1 instead of a harken camcleat. Less expensive and you use the same CL211Mk1s for the clew and tack reefing lines. Attached sketch shows what I had intended for the outhaul but then I saw Dave's recommendation of a 4:1. Any issues or advice regarding my proposal (yes, a little less purchase and a bit more friction using the clew eye as a turning point, but less loose line when tight, and only one part to rivet to the boom)? I've never seen a 4:1 on small boats like ours, myself. Who else here has more than 1:1 on your outhaul? What was the OEM setup over the years? Mine is just 1:1 (as can be seen in photos). Re your sketch, my main comments would be: Put cleat on starboard side, with reefing line cleats. Put cleat far enough forward that you can easily reach it from cockpit even with boom aft end far outboard (over the side of the boat). Because when you reef or un-reef you have to slack or tighten the outhaul line too, so easiest if you can work it from same location as reefing lines. I think you'll be fine without a block on clew grommet; try it and see, if too much friction or chafing and you have enough boom length you can add a block there if needed. Mine is 4:1, 2:1 internal and then doubled externally with a small block on the clew. The green Dyneema line is the tail of the internal tackle. The working end is attached internally to the blue line which goes thru an exit block at the end of the boom, up to the sail, and then dead ends at the boom end.
