Has anyone installed a centerboard gasket on there M boat? I know it should have a performance benefit, but I am also interested in the possibility that it would quiet down the centerboard clunk when sleeping. I am thinking about copying this setup on a SCAMP, which simply involves taping on dacron cloth with 3M double sided tape: http://woodnmetalguy.blogspot.com/2015/01/installing-centerboard-slot-gasket... Defender sells 3" Hawk Slot strip for $3.99/foot: http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|10918|2259972|2259998|2260009&id=1687657 I was doubtful that simple two-sided tape could hold up below the waterline, but from 3M's advertising claims, it sounds possible: The 3M 5952 tape is advertised as "strong enough to replace screws, rivets and studs and permanently adhere one material to another" and "create a permanent seal against water, moisture, salt and more." I have yet to see a 3M product not live up to it's advertised specifications, as long as the instructions are followed. Sincerely, Tyler Davis, CA M15 #157 Defiant
Hello Tyler, interesting idea. To eliminate the clunk while sleeping, I raise the centerboard ( I figured this out the second night that I slept on the boat Best Regards,PeteM15 #243 Oasis

I would rather keep it down while sleeping since that should make the boat less tender, and then I can't forget it put it down the next morning. In defense of taping on a centerboard gasket- I found out that airplanes, and high speed trains have been constructed for decades with 3M "structural adhesive film" in place of rivets which is a fancy marketing term for double sided tape that is stronger than the material it's bonding together. I have heard most dinghy centerboard gaskets are screwed on, but I don't feel comfortable putting metal screws below the waterline into my steel punching filled keel.
