Tod, What about some sort of hinge? A U-bracket from the top part, with holes in each side of the U. A hole through the oar. A rod that goes through the bracket and oar. allowing the oar to piviot up and back. A second, smaller set of holes with some sort of breakable pin to lock the oar in place. Think it would work?
