Tim, If the motor has been sitting for a few years I would have it serviced by Yamaha dealer. At the very least it needs a new water pump impeller as the blades take a set and do not work very efficiently causing the motor to get hot. If it was stored with fuel in it,not only the carb gums up but other parts as well. There are many reasons why it would cut out, maybe parts of the electrical system are corroded.I think it is shop time or shop manual from Yamaha. You don't want to be drifting towards a bridge or dock and have problems.Sometimes it's cheaper to have the pros look at it rather than just throwing parts at it and hoping.
