I opted for the Herreschoff solution, substituting a hard rubber bucket from a Farm Supply store. An odor proof plastic liner takes care of the mess and can be sealed until at a dumpster. The bucket is also handy for wash jobs, etc.

National Geographic in about April 1994 reported on landfill content in the US--research done by a professor at one of the Arizona Universities. Disposable baby diapers were about 1-1.5% of the volume of the landfills surveyed. About 50% of the volume was paper, and 12-13% plastic. ⎈--Gary ☺

Fun project for a professor (of what, I ask?) or his grad students. I am not a microbiologist, but I suspect that the bacteria living on garbage plus the viruses in cat box absorbants make dumps a bad place to forage for food--even without the diapers. He is a modern archeologist I think he calls (called?) himself. He bored down thru 15 years of trash in thee landfills in Arizona, New York and some other US city.
