No way, the water is deep, real deep, between the bridge pylons. Evidently a roque wave and unsuspecting crew. Remarkable photo sequence. Bill K M-17 Half Monty
Bill, I don't believe he was "between the bridge pylons". If you look at the pictures closer you will see he was between the south (I am told) pylon and the shore. Did you see the entire sequence of pictures? There were 113 sequential shots of this event. Some people who know the area have said that there is a very shallow area between the south pylon and the shore. That would account for the breaking wave in that spot when it seems there are no breaking waves anywhere else. Rik Woodsybill@aol.com wrote:

That sailboat is in a spot he shouldn't be. He's between the south pier and Fort Point. This is a well known shallow area and is even marked by a buoy. That's why the surfers are out there. However, it is very hard to see the shallow water from outside the gate. When sailing in, if I decided to go between the south pier and Fort Point I always stick very close to the pier, north of the shallow water marker buoy. This is definitely NOT deep water. The funny (or not funny) thing is that it is marked on a the charts of the bay. Most of the folks I know who sail regularly in the bay know to stay away from that spot. Take care, Michael 26' Tartan "Muse" Woodsybill@aol.com wrote:
