I'm rebedding the mast tabernacle in my M17 and wondered what is the best sealant to use around the electrical cable where it goes through the base of the tabernacle. I've used Boatlife before, but it doesn't seem to hold up. Would a silicone sealant work better? Thanks, Rick M17 #633 Lynne L
DON'T use silicone on the boat. Silicone is not a strong adhesive and will quickly become unbonded from whatever material you're trying to bed. (There is one exception where silicone is used on the Montgomerys, and that is the standard windows but those are held in place mechanically.) silicone also makes it close to impossible to get anything else to stick. Use 3m 4000 or 3m 4200. Another is silkaflex 291. :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA :: Former M15 owner On May 28, 2014 6:12 AM, "Rick Davies" <jdavies104@gmail.com> wrote:

Dave, How about bedding plexiglas windows which are thru bolted onto the cabin sides after the original aluminum framed windows are removed? I can't find any other product that is recommended for this application on the web. Tom B On Wed, May 28, 2014 at 7:31 AM, Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:

Tom: yeah, IMO, that is a good way to go as marine silicone does make a good gasket and will not 'eat' the lexan window. the fasteners will hold the window in place. here is how the standard windows on the 'new deck' M17s, the M15s and the S17s are installed - http://www.sagemarine.us/forum/showthread.php?533 as you will not have the 'flange' in the deck mold i'm assuming you will be installing replacement 'glass' that is larger than the opening for the metal framed windows? -- :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner - www.freewebs.com/m15-named-scred :: M17 #375 SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com On Wed, May 28, 2014 at 10:23 AM, Thomas Buzzi <thomaspbuzzi@gmail.com>wrote:

Hi Dave, Thanks for the info. Would you send me the email of the msog moderator, please? My emails to MSOG for the past two weeks have been coming back as undeliverable. regards, Tom On Wed, May 28, 2014 at 11:30 AM, Dave Scobie <scoobscobie@gmail.com> wrote:
