Just got back from the San Juan / Gulf Islands trip. I see this question has been answered many times, but many of us hit new speed records one day on this trip. We had 25 knot winds gusting to maybe 40 knots with some seas hitting 6 feet and getting real steep as they were against the current. We were running downwind. My GPS showed a top speed of 7.8 knots. Considering the theoretical hull speed of our boats, I think we are doing very well. What a great design. Here is a list of the top speeds recorded so far. (I don't think I will race you guys!!)
