For what it's worth: I heard over the weekend that you can simply toss the transducer down into the bilge, as long as there's a bit of water down there, and it will work fine. Go figure! Even if you get a presentation on the scope, how do you know it's pointed forward without its being held in the correct position? After making the initial investment, why not follow the manufacturer's recommendations to assure best results?
