Where to post Pictures to the Group?
Is it possible to post new pictures to the MSOG or MSOG PHOTO site? I have looked at, studied, and, in some cases, drooled over each existing picture many times. I would love to see updated pictures and some new/different projects. I know we can include pictures with posts on the TrailerSailor site (why not here?) but I would like to see some whole new albums like on MSOG. Henry -- Sent from Gmail Mobile on Windows 10 phone
I second that notion. A picture is worth a....well you know the rest. We are an inventive bunch. Why not set up something where we can share our knowledge and inspiration? Especially in these long, dark, cold, frozen, blustery (have I missed any adjectives?) winters. Food for thought is food for the spirit. (Have I missed any cliques?) One suggestion... Move to a Yahoo group, which has file and picture sharing and the option to get mail or view messages on web or both. I'm in a few other groups (including sailboat groups) that use Yahoo groups and it works well to augment the e-mail listserv piece we already have. Pictures can be in "albums" as well so it's not just one big pile of pictures. This list is AFAIK a mailman listserv - e-mail list - which is basically all mailman does (and does it very well, for decades now, but, it's just an e-mail list server, doesn't provide any other features/functions) There are other more techie options I won't go into now because they involve upgrading the MSOG site to something we can all "join" and then have ability to share pictures, files, etc.. cheers, John S. Why not just post, pics and all to the Montgomery forum on TrailerSailor? It is all set up. The Monty forum there is certainly underutilizes compared to some of the other class forums on that site. You don't even have to deal with the main board if you don't want to. Bill

No, not at all. Yahoo is pretty junk for most things, but their 'groups' are pretty useful. It is just a group you join. You have to get a yahoo login if you don't have one but you don't need to use it for anything else but the groups if you don't want to. I don't use it for anything but that and a second-backup e-mail account for occasional emergencies with my regular accounts. cheers, John S. On 01/26/2016 08:17 PM, Thomas Buzzi wrote:

I agree with the Yahoo site. It works well for the NorSea owners group (me included). The Montgomery Owners site exists there already. It was previously set up by Sean Mulligan (sp?) from Lake Havasu, AZ. It is a pain that all the communication goes through the yahoo mail server. That means it's practically the only mail I get from yahoo and I have to check it separately from my gmail. I have photos to post as well from a complete restoration on a Flush Deck but Dave S let me know that, as we all know, that this has been and continues to not be possible on MSOG or the sister photo site. You do not need to use a yahoo e-mail address for a yahoo group. You do need to create a yahoo ID to log into Yahoo services, but then you can add any other e-mail accounts to your profile and use any one of them to get mail from a given group. I am a member of about half a dozen yahoo groups but don't use my yahoo login/e-mail address for any of them, I use this address. The yahoo group says it's only for an owner registry and nothing else. So far that appears true - there are no messages, and photos are not enabled. I think it would be good to enable photos on the yahoo group so there would be someplace to put pics and albums of pics. A link to those relevant to a post here could be included in the post. Forums, like this mailman list, don't have any individual photo or photo album capability. Pics are specific to a forum post so one has to go searching through the forum. There can be a photo/album repository such as a yahoo group and also this list. Can be both-and, doesn't have to be either-or. I'm not clear what the MSOG site update will be, let's see what happens. Can you say more - what platform are you upgrading to, will it be self-subscribe & self-manage one's own content? I have been on the 'net since back when it was a small, mostly friendly, completely non-commercial virtual space and the world wide web was not quite invented yet. Some things have changed a lot, and some have not at all...;-) cheers, John S. -- John Schinnerer - M.A., Whole Systems Design -------------------------------------------- - Eco-Living - Whole Systems Design Services People - Place - Learning - Integration john@eco-living.net - 510.982.1334 http://eco-living.net http://sociocracyconsulting.com
Thanks John, Yes I have been on the net since around 1995 or so too and there has been a lot of changes. I already have a yahoo ID sign on etc. I did it so long ago that the default email in there is my often-not-used yahoo mail account. Gotta change it but it does keep my main email somewhat uncluttered I guess (point/counter point SNL sketch comedy). Boy can they get outta hand...numbers of emails I mean. I have been on the Nor'Sea group for many years over there and is sure is nice to have photos/photo albums. It made my full restoration on the NS 27 easier. The Monty FD restoration was more difficult without this type of resource for sure. I know the yahoo owners site is not currently active and looks like it never was more than a list but it is there and could be used for the purposes we're looking for. Just some thoughts for you guys who are using this forum more regularly. Sounds like you're aware of that pre-established yahoo group already. I'll wait to see what shakes loose for a place for current and future photos!
Some things have changed a lot, and some have not at all...;-)
cheers, John S.

The MSOG site doesn't seem to get frequent updates anymore. What do you guys think about starting a Montgomery/Sage Wiki that anyone can edit or upload to? It would be sort-of like wikipedia, but just for Montgomery sailboats. We could run something on a free tier Amazon Web Services (AWS) server, but it would have an awful computer generated random hostname of some sort.

Msogphotosite isn't done with an update and yet ready for new photos. It will be! :: Dave Scobie On Jan 26, 2016 4:52 PM, "Henry Rodriguez" <heinzir@gmail.com> wrote:
