Hello Monty owners. I have an M15 with the original engine bracket on the transom. Has anyone mounted a 2 hp 4 stroke Honda motor on the original bracket? If so, did it operate ok from there? Also, what length shaft, 15 or 20 inches, would you recommend? Thanks Mike Hall So Cal Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
mike: a 2HP long shaft will work on a M15 fixed bracket. if you single hand when you go forward of the cabin bulkhead the motor will cavitate. :: Dave Scobie :: former M15 owner (fixed bracket) :: M17 #375 - SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.us --- On Mon, 2/28/11, beowulf2@cox.net <beowulf2@cox.net> wrote: Hello Monty owners. Mike, I have a Honda 2/20 in. on my 15/original bracket. I found that I couldn't tip the motor up far enough to lock on the stock bracket. I took a piece of 2x8 about 8 inches long and through bolted it to the bracket. The motor is now about 3+ inches higher and back about 1 5/8 in. When I tip it up now, it clears everything fine. The Honda 2 feels surprisingly spunky on my 15. I was impressed. Rik On Mon, Feb 28, 2011 at 12:48 PM, <beowulf2@cox.net> wrote:

the honda 2HP is a great motor and a great fit for the M15. the only negative, IMO, is the lack of an external fuel tank option ... refueling every 45ish minutes isn't fun. :: Dave Scobie :: M17 #375 - SWEET PEA - www.m17-375.webs.com :: Sage Marine - www.sagemarine.us --- On Mon, 2/28/11, Rik Sandberg <sanderico1@gmail.com> wrote: The Honda 2 feels surprisingly spunky on my 15. I agree with Dave about the lack of an external tank, but solved that problem by purchasing an outboard hose with bulb pump in-line. I have a yamaha 3hp that I converted to a remote tank. Turns out it had a klein carb. with an integral fuel pump mounted in it. Just had to cut the fuel line and put a tee in it with a fuel line fitting for a remote tank. Worked really good with the remote and you still could use the internal tank too. I dont know if the honda has a pump or not but it would be worth a check.

Does anyone have experince with the 4hp Mariner? The internal tank only holds about 1 gal and refilling in rough conditions is a pain. If it could be modified like the Yahama it would be a lifesaver for me. There is a modification for an alternate gas cap on the engine that allows you to fill the tank with a squeeze bulb. The link is: http://www.wwpotterowners.com/Modification82.html This will work for any cockpit gas tank, you just need to cut off the fitting on the squeeze bulb. Then when the engine tank is getting low you just open the cockpit gas tank and insert the hose and pump away. Mike: Get the long-shaft either the 2hp Honda or the 2.5hp Yamaha. I had the Honda on my M15 and added a block to the stock mount to raise it about 2 inches so that I could tilt the motor up further while sailing. --Gary Hyde 2005 M17 #637 sailboat 'Hydeaway 2' On Feb 28, 2011, at 10:48 AM, beowulf2@cox.net wrote:

As others have reported, I also have a small problem tilting with the original mount and the Honda 2HP. Added a spacer between the aft face of the mount and the engine to move the engine aft. The spacer is as thick as would fit and still allow the engine "clamp gap" to slip over the assembly. Now I can tilt the engine up and, when rotated roughly 90 degrees, just get the tilt latch engaged by pushing the engine cowling (I suppose it deforms just a bit) past the upper lip of the transom. Moving the engine further aft would finally give me clearance, but without modifying the bracket the Honda's clamping gap just won't allow it. Engine operates fine, though sometimes you'll bang your knuckles pull-starting, and I've no difficulties whatsoever with it pushing the boat, but tides and currents aren't anything difficult here. Get the long shaft. -- John Tyner '88 M-15 #412 "Chimpanzee" On 2/28/2011 1:48 PM, beowulf2@cox.net wrote:
