Dave, How far is some distance? Washington State is 1500 miles from Arizona. Seems a far piece to tow a boat. I have towed my M-15 from the S E corner of Oregon to the N E corner of Washington, and that seemed a far distance of 500 miles. One of those 'eye of the beholder' things. I know of some montgomery purchasers that have driven the country to get their mboat. I know of one that have collected their's from Denver and brought home to greater Seattle area. A second person bought their Mboat sight unseen and paid to have a shipper deliver the boat to their home in Seattle from a pickup in Denver. Depending on the cost of the boat, it may be worth a quick Southwest Airlines flight to check it out. I did this when I was looking for my M17. Flew to California from Seattle. Ended up passing on the boat but the cost of the flight wasn't a big deal. Steve, I agree with Dave when shopping for a used Mboat, it can be tough to get a used Mboat that fits a person's criteria i.e. price, vintage, configuration, add ons, condition, etc., so if you find one that's on the right side of the continent it is probably worth considering. I live in Vancouver Canada but after a year of looking I selected and bought my boat (M17 "Serenity") in Arizona, she was in pristine condition, right vintage & configuration and met my budget (including $1500 in travel costs to pick the boat up). I found the pre-qualification process from distance was pretty easy using lots of questions by phone and pictures sent via email by the seller.
From a travel time perspective it took 3 days (good weather in Sept) to get to Lake Pleasant AZ, and a day to inspect the boat and make a final decision to purchase. When I got there there were no surprises...
It was then 4 long days back home (a little slower with the boat in tow), coming home we travelled up the middle Nevada via US 93 North of LAS Vegas then thru Oregon to the Columbia Gorge and home via the I5. This route took most of the big hills and mountain passes out of the equation. I suspect the trip would be a few hours shorter for Washington State folk... The way I see it hopefully the boat will be with this person for many years to come.... A long trip is easily forgotten with the passage of time. In my case I plan to either pass Serenity down in my will, or get buried at sea in her, as I foresee no circumstance where I would voluntarily part with her! So the trip for me was more than worth it! :) Cheers, Keith *Keith R. Martin, P.Eng.* *Burnaby, B.C. CanadaSerenity,** M17 Hull #353* On 27 January 2015 at 16:23, stevetrapp <stevetrapp@q.com> wrote:

I believe they live in Arizona. At least they did a few years ago. They
brought Latitude on one of the San Juan cruises and I can attest that it is a beautiful boat.

Hi, We currently have a 2010 Montgomery 15 which our son's bought for us after our 23 foot sailboat was damaged in a launch ramp accident . As we are getting less mobile with age , we believe a little larger boat would be more accommodating. We are located in Pennsylvania-near Valley Forge . Would it be feasible for us to come see your boat ? Vern and Freda Pidcoe

Oh Contraire,, I bought a Sparrow 16, sight-unseen, and drove ONE WAY 2,775 miles from Lake Striker Texas to Port Townsend Washington, 5,550 miles round trip. I have owned a Monty 16 and 17, and they were SUPER boats....BUT I haven't regretted a moment of the deal either.....I bought Josh Colvins (SCA magazine) boat. Great deal for ANY small craft Sailor who is nuts for good boats. ! Josh is a super good guy and good sailor, and magazine editor. I have towed my M-15 from the S E corner of Oregon to the N E corner of Washington, and that seemed a far distance of 500 miles. In the used montgomery market you drive some distance usually to get the boat.

Thanx for the information. Hard to know if a local friend who wants a M-17 would be interested if I can not tell him how far he will need to travel to see the boat, then how far he would have to tow it home if he buys it. Steve M-15 # 335

I drove 2,000 miles (round trip) to get my M15 from Salem, OR while living in Riverside, CA. I did the drive to Salem in one day and slept aboard at a rest area on the way back. At the time it was the only M15 I could find for sale on the west coast. Luckily I had gotten to see it first before doing the drive because I happened to be flying to a friends wedding in Salem right when it hit the market. It was quite and adventure because the trailer didn't have proper lights or fenders- I had to jury rig some temporary ones in one evening before I could go. The fenders I made with corrugated plastic from old political signs, zip tied to the frame. Tyler Davis, CA M15 #157 "Defiant" On Jan 27, 2015, at 4:23 PM, stevetrapp wrote:

I really lucked out when I found Lynne L (née Berly B). When I started to retire in 2007 and decided to become a boat owner again I'd never heard of Montgomery boats. Spent some time in the local marina looking at boats and talking to owners, and found Mike Murphy's M15, which really impressed me. Did some online research and found it came in the 17 ft size, and was quickly convinced that the M17 met my every need. Within a couple of days, I happened to find online that M17 #633 was on the market, not only on the East coast, but parked in a driveway not 20 miles from my house! I hightailed it over and bought her on the spot. And the rest, as they say is history. Rick M17 #633 Lynne L On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, Tyler Backman <casioqv@usermail.com> wrote:
