Should be some exiting times for the boys up in Maine: http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/AN/150.html Hope they find a safe place to hole up......preferably one with a good supply of beer and lobster!
I'm guessing the forecast at that time was for Wednesday? It didn't turn two blustery until late in the day. There was a small craft advisory but sailing across East Penobscot Bay was uneventful, and Busca was slightly under canvassed with only storm jib and reefed main: www.todspages.net/images/LF-WestPenBay.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-WestPenBayBuoy.jpg However, once I got between the ledges at the edge of Merchant Row the wind piped up a notch and I was glad I hadn't changed to the larger jib as Busca was now dipping her rail under that minimal sail. The lobstah buoys, toggled, meaning double floats tied together with about 20-40 feet of line were very thick and it took a lot of concentration to avoid snagging one while holding a course between the rocky ledges. That night was noisy and blustery and rolly in the lee of Magathery Island, but the next day was the start of something beautiful, with great company in Doug, Rick, Abbey, and Thomas and Kate, weather, scenery, and food. All you folks who couldn't make it, you missed a mighty fine cruise: www.todspages.net/images/LF-MagatheryRock.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-raftup.jpg www.todspages.net/images/LF-Frenchboro.jpg more later..... It was. Remnants of Katrina were headed that way with winds forecast to 30 knots plus. Sounds like we missed a GREAT trip. In my own case, I also missed 3,000 miles round trip, at 10 MPG, at $3.50 per gallon = $1,050 for gas to get out there and back. One has mixed emotions about that. Like eating chili peppers. Pain....but worth it! Hope nobody OD'd on the lobster. On 9/12/05 10:31 PM, "htmills@bright.net" <htmills@bright.net> wrote:
