Re: M_Boats: Sail Lake Don Pedro
Joe, As another retiree let me give you a tip....... Go sailing from Monday to Friday, when everyone else has to work. Then you'll have peace and quiet, no PWCs and probably very few motorboats as well. Weekends I stay home and massage my lawn, or do other chores, and let all the water skiers churn up the water, while the PWCs jump the wakes. Peace and quiet is what it is all about! Absolutely! The same goes for fishing. Ain't retirement grand... and we even get seasoned citizens discounts! I generally do my boating during the mid-week and leave Saturday and Sunday to the week-end warriors. Our weather has been so gorgeous, however -- bright sunny skies, mild, gentle breezes, temperatures in the mid-70s -- I would probably risk the PWCs to go sailing. I spent most of today dry sailing in our driveway, making a few minor adjustments and/or improvements on Poco. Fed Ex delivered a box of goodies from West Marine this afternoon, but I decided to stay with my wire cable topping lift, after all. I added a cheek block on the aft port side of the boom and a jam cleat forward on the port side of the boom opposite the reef line jam cleat. A nylon quick clip is lashed to the cable end thimble. By running a line from the end of the boom, up through another quick clip (which mates with the clip on the topping lift cable), down through the cheek block and forward to the jam cleat, I can now adjust the topping lift -- plus all halyards and sheets -- from the center of the cockpit. As always, it is important to make singlehanding more simple and safe. After tomorrow's sail, I'll let you know how the topping lift setup performs. Joe Kidd M15 #207 "Poco A Poco"
