posting pictures requires you to do two things - photo must be reduced in size from what most cameras now take 'native' (images by 'average' cameras are around 2-3MB ... if you have a fancy one double or triple this size). photos that i share by email i reduce in size to below 300KB. to do this i just load the photo into Microsoft Paint and reduce the photo to 20% of original size (in the Windows 7 version of paint look in the upper-left corner for the 'resize' selector in the 'image' section). once the image is resized i save the file as '<name> - small' so i don't overwrite the original 'high fidelity' image. based on the above no video will go across the listproc email system as a video will be HUGE. now the second thing - the picture must be _attached_ not inserted into the text of the message. (a detail thing - most email programs really are sending little www-pages, html code, that allow fancy fonts, backgrounds and images in the massage). the listproc only allows sending of text; no 'fancy stuff'. so a message with a in-text picture will be rejected or the image removed. so this means you need to look at your email program and see where you can 'attach' files. use the 'attach' option with a file that meets the size restriction listed above you should be set. a good way to know if you are attaching v. 'in-texting' ... don't 'drag and drop' the image into your email. the other is if you can see the image in the text. an attached file is usually noted up in the 'send to' and 'subject' areas of the email program with just a filename. the other thing is may image programs that allow you to store you camera's files allow you to 'send image'. most cases this will not work because these programs create an email with the photo in the text (ie, using html code) ... which will not work with the listproc. to slightly change topic - above does relate to a discussion had at least three or four years ago: should the listproc be moved to a modern forum? a forum would allow for 'modern' inclusion of photos and videos. the last discussion of going to a forum format was resoundingly rejected. does a forum v. listproc format need to be re-visited? anyhow ... hope this email helps folks understand how to send _small_ pictures. i've attached one to this email as an example. :: Dave Scobie --- On Fri, 3/22/13, mack warner <mackwarner007@gmail.com> wrote:

No...this is not a forum in my mind. This is an e-mail list. I was a bit to cryptic. My apologies. I was commenting on the mention of changing to a forum format. My point is that I believe a lot would be lost if this list were abandoned and the group went to a forum delivery. A couple of other e-mail lists I have been on have converted to forums. They are never the same, and tend to lose a lot of their members....though I suppose that other people do join the forum because it may be more easily discoverable via a Google search. I save the e-mails about how to do things and am able to search for them later by doing a word search in my e-mail (or directing all of the e-mails to a certain file). There is also something more conversational to me about this type of listserve. Maybe because it is delivered to me...and I do not have to actually go to the forum. Gail
All points are well taken! I was speaking in jest, for certain. As we all know, sarcasm and/or humor is hard to transmit through email. Honestly, I despise the old forum model as well. Trying to dig through posts on a somewhat inaccessible and cryptic website format is certainly annoying at least. Fortunately, there have been great strides in this technology! I regularly use google groups as a forum with my friends that works out to be exactly the same experience as an email list. I don't actually know how the Mboats list is administrated, but it I would be happy to start a google group for us and have the group migrate to it, if there was any sort of interest. Though I'm generally a lurker, I appreciate all the members of this list and generally enjoy their attitudes and stories! Thanks to all for being a great community! I just realized that this group is not a yahoo group. I do not mind the yahoo group setup because I can still choose to have individual (or grouped) e-mails delivered to my inbox. That would be fine with me, as it does the same thing that this group does. And you can set them so you can attach photos if you want to...or set it so photos cannot be attached to the e-mail itself, but can be downloaded to a file folder on the internet. You can also read the e-mails solely online. Just for clarification, although there is no doubt that msog is a fine thing, this list is independent of it and predates it by many years. I started the mailing list, gosh, thinking about how long ago it was frighted me! Yes, the mailing list format is old and foreign to some, but it's fast, lightweight, and nimble. I much prefer it to using a web forum on my cell phone. (remember that all list mail has a subject starting with M_Boats:, so you can create a rule in your mail program to dump it into its oun folder and read it at your pleasure) Further, xmission, who hosts the mailman system, lays no claims to you or your information. Read those forum terms and conditions some time At any rate, it is what it is and has been for more than a decade now. If a new generation of sailers prefers a different format, they are certainly free to follow their desires with no hard feelings from me. Ah, nice to see msogphotosite being fixed. Right now the colors seem all off on my mac using firefox. Also, one of the M15 boats is labeled Bijou. That is the boat I currently own. Interestingly, when I bought the boat from Bob Becker, and asked him the name, he told me the boat had never been named. There were no markings on the boat with a name either. I'd forgotten the photo site since I lost all my bookmarks a while back. I'm also using Firefox (v. 19.0.2), but on a PC, and have the color difficulties, so I'll just consider it a work in progress for now. :-) John Tyner M-15 #412 "Chimpanzee" On 3/23/2013 11:51 AM, Daniel Rich wrote:
